TL;DR
Staff Mission Integration Engineer (Aerospace): Defining end-to-end mission architectures and integrating spacecraft, payloads, launch vehicles, ground systems, and operations with an accent on orbital mechanics, mission analysis, and spacecraft-level testing. Focus on leading complex mission integration, coupled loads, thermal and EMC assessments, technical budgets, customer liaison work, and cross-functional system verification.

Location: Los Angeles, United States. U.S. Person status is required to access export-controlled data. The role includes travel to launch sites and in-person collaboration at the Playa Vista office.

Salary: $175,000–$210,000 estimated base salary, plus equity.

What you will do

  • Define end-to-end mission architectures covering spacecraft, launch vehicles, ground systems, and mission operations.
  • Lead payload integration, spacecraft environmental testing, launch vehicle integration, and mission integration and test planning.
  • Perform mission architecture trades involving orbital mechanics, trajectory planning, deployment strategies, and mission analysis.
  • Lead coupled loads, thermal, electromagnetic compatibility, requirements verification, validation, and system-level FMEA activities.
  • Act as the primary technical liaison between customers, internal engineering teams, government entities, prime contractors, and external partners.
  • Develop technical documentation, integration procedures, system budgets, proposals, technical approaches, feasibility studies, and cost estimates.

Requirements

  • U.S. Person status required for access to export-controlled data.
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • At least 12 years of experience working on complex hardware systems, preferably spacecraft, or in technical capture management.
  • Strong understanding of space systems, launch vehicle mechanics, orbital dynamics, mission operations, and satellite or payload integration.
  • Experience with CubeSat, small satellite, rideshare, spacecraft, launch vehicle, or payload engineering.
  • Proficiency with Python, MATLAB, STK, FreeFlyer, GMAT, or other mission analysis tools, plus advanced Microsoft Excel skills.

Nice to have

  • Experience in satellite manufacturing, aerospace, defense, or high-tech industries.
  • Experience working with prime contractors or government entities.
  • Familiarity with flight software, embedded systems, and CCSDS, S-band, or X-band communications protocols.
