TL;DR
Senior Systems Engineer, Mission Architecture (Aerospace): Designing and integrating mission-critical aerospace and defense systems for autonomous spacecraft, including rendezvous, docking, and proximity operations, with an accent on mission requirements, trajectory design, and spacecraft operations. Location: Fully onsite in Centennial, Colorado or Long Beach, California, United States

Base salary: $125,000–$235,000 per year, plus equity and benefits.

What you will do

  • Define mission objectives, operational concepts, system requirements, and engineering solutions with customers and cross-functional teams.
  • Lead system trade studies, performance evaluations, feasibility assessments, and RPO mission trajectory design.
  • Design and optimize spacecraft maneuvers while accounting for fuel efficiency, timing, collision risks, and operational uncertainties.
  • Oversee mission-system integration across hardware, software, and operations, and develop integration and verification plans.
  • Build and maintain high-fidelity spacecraft and environmental models; run simulations, Monte Carlo analyses, and mission performance assessments.
  • Support testing, real-time mission execution, pre-flight and post-flight analysis, anomaly investigations, proposals, and risk mitigation.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of experience in mission analysis, space operations, or orbital mechanics.
  • Technical leadership and systems architecture experience, including RPO mission design and spacecraft operations.
  • Hands-on experience with STK, FreeFlyer, GMAT, or similar mission-analysis tools.
  • Strong understanding of orbital mechanics, spacecraft dynamics, autonomous space operations, and mission planning.
  • Proficiency with simulation tools and programming languages such as MATLAB, Python, or C++.
  • Must have or be able to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI or TS/SAP U.S. government security clearance and satisfy U.S. ITAR eligibility requirements.

Nice to have

  • Advanced degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, or Systems Engineering.
  • Active TS/SCI clearance and experience with defense or classified space missions.
  • Familiarity with U.S. Department of Defense and NASA mission standards and processes.
  • Experience working with government agencies, prime contractors, or subcontractors on space missions.
