Senior Data Engineer (AI)

Location: DC-Washington-TWP Headquarters; on-site five days a week

Salary: $119,700–$199,300 annual, with possible bonus or incentive eligibility.

What you will do

• Lead data engineering efforts for scalable, secure, and reliable data pipelines using Python, Spark, Flink, and related processing technologies.
• Design and deploy data solutions supporting Generative AI, personalization, recommendation systems, revenue science, advertising insights, and campaign infrastructure.
• Gather requirements, define technical solutions, write maintainable code, and deliver tested software through code reviews and CI/CD practices.
• Collaborate with data scientists, product managers, designers, newsroom stakeholders, and business teams on large-scale projects.
• Mentor junior engineers, review code, share technical knowledge, and influence engineering practices.
• Monitor performance, troubleshoot issues, manage delivery risks, and improve system security, scalability, and reliability.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience; a Master’s degree is preferred.
• 3+ years of experience with ETL/ELT, data modeling, SQL, and querying or analyzing large datasets.
• Extensive experience with Python, PySpark, AWS data lakehouse technologies, and services including Redshift, Athena, EMR, and Glue Catalog.
• Experience with Pub/Sub, event-driven architecture, Apache Airflow DAGs, cloud infrastructure, and scalable application deployment.
• Experience with software development best practices, testing, CI/CD, Docker, performance monitoring, and observability tools.
• Ability to mentor engineers, communicate with technical and non-technical stakeholders, troubleshoot across the stack, and make decisions with limited supervision.

Nice to have

• Experience with Apache Iceberg, Postgres, MySQL, DynamoDB, Tableau, or Superset.
• Experience with Google Ad Manager data and advertising technology vendors.
• Strong skills with Docker and ECS.
• Master’s degree in a related field.
