Lead Data Scientist (Autonomous AI Agents)

Location: Remote US; occasional travel to hirify.global offices for training or meetings may be required.

Salary: $142,300–$195,700 per year, plus eligibility for a bonus incentive plan.

What you will do

• Architect goal-setting and goal-decomposition mechanisms for autonomous agents in uncertain and open-ended environments.
• Design dynamic planning systems, including hierarchical planning, curriculum learning, and self-refinement loops.
• Develop memory, tool-use, feedback-loop, and multi-step agent behavior systems.
• Create evaluation frameworks for human-intent alignment, consistency, and progress on long-horizon objectives.
• Prototype agents connected to APIs, MCP servers, search engines, databases, and real-world actuators.
• Detect and mitigate goal misalignment, looping behavior, undesirable strategies, and operational risks.

Requirements

• Master’s degree and 4+ years of experience in research, ML engineering, or applied research science, preferably developing production-ready AI solutions.
• 2+ years of experience leading AI/ML system development.
• Proficiency in Python, SQL, and data analysis or data-mining tools.
• Experience with PyTorch, JAX, LangChain, LangGraph, or AutoGen; large-scale ML systems; transformer-based language modeling; and large-scale ETL.
• Experience with symbolic planning, causal reasoning, and model-based reinforcement learning.
• Must be able to work remotely from the United States and maintain a dedicated workspace that protects member PHI/HIPAA information.

Nice to have

• Ph.D. in Computer Science, Data Science, Machine Learning, or a related field.
• Experience shipping autonomous or semi-autonomous agents in production or simulation.
• Experience with LLM-based agents using scratchpads, self-reflection, or hierarchical task decomposition.
• Knowledge of autonomy risk mitigation, off-switch protocols, or bounded rationality.
