Staff+ Software Engineer (Auth & Identity)

Location: San Francisco, CA or New York City, NY. Hybrid policy: staff must work from one of the company's offices at least 25% of the time. Preference is given to candidates based in New York, Seattle, San Francisco, or the Bay Area.

Annual salary: $405,000–$485,000 USD.

What you will do

• Own authentication, authorization, and identity systems end to end, from design through rollout, operations, and iteration.
• Design credentials and access models for agents and long-running autonomous workloads.
• Build unified authorization systems with low latency, strong security guarantees, and multi-region resilience.
• Develop identity models for users, service accounts, and agents across products and cloud environments.
• Lead enterprise integrations including SSO, SCIM, login policies, recovery methods, and allowlisting.
• Set technical direction and partner with product, security, infrastructure, and consuming engineering teams.

Requirements

• 8+ years of experience building and operating backend or platform systems at scale.
• Experience with identity, authentication, authorization, security infrastructure, or related systems.
• Knowledge of OAuth 2.0, OIDC, SAML, SCIM, JWTs, token exchange, workload identity federation, policy engines, RBAC, or resource-level access control.
• Experience operating high-traffic systems, handling failure modes and revocation, and leading incremental migrations.
• Ability to make independent technical decisions and communicate clearly with cross-functional stakeholders.
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent education, training, or experience in a relevant field.

Nice to have

• Experience with globally distributed databases and multi-region service architecture.
• Experience with Go, Python, Rust, or TypeScript.
• Experience integrating enterprise identity providers and cloud IAM systems.
• Experience using AI tools in software development workflows.
