Staff+ Software Engineer, Auth & Identity

Location: San Francisco, CA or New York City, NY; hybrid policy requires staff to work from one of the offices at least 25% of the time. Preference is given to candidates based in New York, Seattle, San Francisco, or the Bay Area.

Salary: $405,000–$485,000 USD annually.

What you will do

• Own high-traffic authentication, authorization, and identity systems from design through rollout, operations, and iteration.
• Design credentials and identity models for service accounts, autonomous agents, and long-running workloads.
• Build unified authorization systems with low latency, strong security guarantees, and multi-region resilience.
• Lead global distribution, failover, and migrations of mission-critical services in live production systems.
• Develop enterprise identity integrations, including SSO, SCIM, login policies, recovery methods, and allowlisting.
• Set technical direction and collaborate with product, security, infrastructure, and consuming engineering teams.

Requirements

• 8+ years of experience building and operating backend or platform systems at scale.
• Experience with identity, authentication, authorization, or security-related infrastructure.
• Knowledge of OAuth 2.0, OIDC, SAML, SCIM, JWTs, token exchange, workload identity federation, policy engines, RBAC, or resource-level access control.
• Experience designing for reliability, security, failure modes, revocation, and on-call operations.
• Ability to lead large migrations, incremental rollouts, and retirement of legacy systems.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent education, training, or professional experience; visa sponsorship may be available for eligible candidates.

Nice to have

• Experience with globally distributed databases and multi-region service architecture.
• Experience with Go, Python, Rust, or TypeScript.
• Prior work integrating enterprise identity providers and cloud IAM systems.
• Experience using AI tools in software development workflows.
