Lead Mechanical Design Engineer (Aerospace)

Location: Fully on-site at the Aston, PA facility, United States. Must be a US Citizen; the position may involve access to export-controlled information and additional security screening.

Salary: $130,000–$145,000 annually.

Company

Develops land-based aircraft arresting and recovery systems for military aircraft through Curtiss-Wright Arresting Systems / ESCO.

What you will do

• Lead the design, analysis, testing, and lifecycle support of mechanical systems for aircraft arresting and recovery products.
• Design complex equipment, machinery, hydraulic assemblies, electro-mechanical control systems, and structural components.
• Create 3D models and component drawings in CATIA V5, including manufacturing drawings, tolerances, and process requirements.
• Perform classical engineering calculations and finite element analysis.
• Prepare engineering solutions, RFQ/RFI proposal documentation, technical specifications, and product procedures.
• Coordinate with customers, production, quality, and project management while transitioning products from prototype through production; mentor junior engineers.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent.
• 10+ years of mechanical design experience, including complex mechanical or electro-mechanical product development.
• Proficiency in 3D CAD modeling with CATIA V5 or a similar tool.
• Proficiency in GD&T, ASME Y14.5, FMEA, tolerance stack-up analysis, and engineering documentation.
• Knowledge of industrial and machine design, engineering analysis, and manufacturing processes such as machining, grinding, lapping, additive manufacturing, wire EDM, and sheet metal fabrication.
• US citizenship is required; ability to travel up to 10%.

Nice to have

• Defense or aerospace industry experience.
• Experience with hydraulic and pneumatic system design and analysis.
• Familiarity with layouts, schematics, control systems, PLCs, and ASME or MIL-STD standards.
