Embedded Software Engineer (C++)

Location: Glasgow and multiple sites across the Central Belt of Scotland, United Kingdom; on-site 3–4 days per week.

Salary: GBP 35,000–GBP 65,000 per year.

What you will do

• Design, develop, and maintain embedded C++ software for complex, safety-critical systems.
• Apply structured, model-based, and scalable software architecture approaches.
• Collaborate with systems and hardware engineers to integrate software onto target platforms.
• Ensure compliance with safety and coding standards, including DO-178C and MISRA C/C++.
• Support system integration, verification, and validation in lab-based environments.
• Contribute to Agile delivery and continuous improvement using tools such as Jira, Confluence, and Git.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience developing C++ software in embedded or safety-critical environments.
• Strong understanding of object-oriented design principles.
• Experience in defence, aerospace, or similarly regulated industries.
• Familiarity with safety-critical development standards such as DO-178C and MISRA C/C++.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or a related discipline, or equivalent hands-on technical military experience.
• Must be eligible for or already hold UK Security Clearance (SC); candidates must be willing and eligible to obtain SC clearance.

Nice to have

• Experience with model-based or UML-driven development, including IBM Rhapsody or similar tools.
• Experience with requirements or configuration management tools such as DOORS or Dimension.
• Hands-on experience with software integration, verification, lab-based testing, real-time systems, or embedded platforms.
