Systems Software Engineer (C++/Network Capture)

Annual base salary: $145,000–$185,000, plus an annual discretionary bonus

What you will do

• Design, build, deploy, and validate network capture servers across infrastructure and data center teams.
• Develop and maintain capture and query software in C++, Python, Rust, and Ruby, emphasizing testing, reliability, and performance.
• Build Ansible automation, configuration management, and deployment tooling for repeatable server provisioning.
• Participate in the weekly production support rotation, troubleshooting live capture issues and coordinating incident response.
• Improve monitoring, automation, and capacity planning, and deliver proposals through to production.
• Coordinate capture deployments and serve as a liaison with data center, systems administration, network engineering, and purchasing teams.

Requirements

• 3+ years of professional systems software engineering experience and strong skills in Rust, C/C++, or Go, with willingness to make C++ the primary language.
• Experience with DPDK or comparable kernel-bypass packet processing, including hugepages, CPU pinning, core isolation, NUMA, and poll-mode drivers.
• Strong Linux administration and production server troubleshooting skills.
• Solid TCP/IP, routing, switching, NIC, and packet analysis fundamentals.
• Hands-on experience with server hardware and data center workflows, plus Ansible or comparable configuration management.
• Availability for weekly production support, including occasional off-hours, nights, and weekends, with strong communication and incident-response skills.

Nice to have

• Ruby, RHEL-family, Kubernetes, GitOps tooling such as Flux or Helm, commercial network capture products, and performance analysis tools such as perf, eBPF, flamegraphs, or tcpdump.
• Contributions to the DPDK ecosystem beyond application-level use.
• Familiarity with service discovery, secrets management, metrics, dashboarding, and relational databases.
