Staff Software Engineer, C++ Software Integration (R4018)

Location: Washington, DC, United States; on-site

Salary: $150,711–$226,067 per year, plus bonus, benefits, and equity for regular full-time employees.

What you will do

• Architect and implement high-performance C++ and Python systems across cross-platform environments.
• Lead the design and integration of distributed systems, simulation tools, and third-party hardware and software.
• Define technical direction, design patterns, and integration practices across projects.
• Build messaging and API layers using technologies such as gRPC, REST, and ZeroMQ.
• Own CI/CD pipelines and build infrastructure using GitLab CI, Docker, Conan, and CMake.
• Lead debugging, optimization, verification, mentoring, and end-to-end integration for real-time and multithreaded systems.

Requirements

• Typically 7+ years of related experience with a bachelor's degree, or equivalent combinations of advanced education and experience.
• Advanced C++ experience, including C++14/17/20 and legacy C++98/03 codebases.
• Strong Linux/Unix, distributed systems, real-time processing, systems integration, and hardware/software interface experience.
• Experience with CI/CD, Docker, CMake, Conan, Python, networking, and communication protocols.
• Experience leading efforts involving 10 or more contributors, including technical planning and mentorship.
• Active SECRET clearance required.

Nice to have

• Real-time or distributed simulation experience, including AFSIM or NGTS.
• Experience with gRPC, REST APIs, message queues, UCI, OMS, avionics data buses, and aircraft interface protocols.
• Experience integrating simulation with autonomy frameworks, real-time operators, or modeling and analysis pipelines.
• Ability to obtain a TS/SCI clearance.
