Senior Software Engineer, Trading Platform, C++ (Fintech)

Location: Chicago office, United States

Annual base salary: $175,000–$240,000, plus an annual discretionary bonus.

What you will do

• Design, develop, and maintain a low-latency trading platform.
• Work across order routing, market data, and risk systems.
• Develop high-availability C++ systems with tight resource and latency constraints.
• Apply multithreaded programming and optimize hardware/software interaction.
• Perform performance tuning and troubleshooting across applications, Linux, and socket I/O.

Requirements

• At least 5 years of experience developing high-availability systems in C++ under strict resource and latency constraints.
• Background in multithreaded programming and a strong understanding of hardware/software interaction.
• Strong performance-tuning and troubleshooting skills across applications, Linux, and socket I/O.
• Experience with the STL and Boost libraries and current knowledge of C++23 standards.
• Experience with challenging real-time systems projects, such as building a custom compiler, writing a matching engine, or processing large volumes of data.
• Strong written and verbal English communication skills.

Nice to have

• Experience in trading or another ultra-low-latency industry.
• Experience working with research teams and quants.
• Experience in gaming or streaming.
