TL;DR
Lead Hardware Engineer (VPX/FPGA): Leading the design and development of complex 3U and 6U VPX electrical boards and custom form-factor defense systems with an accent on high-speed digital, mixed-signal, FPGA, power, and thermal-management design. Focus on translating customer requirements into hardware architectures, leading testing and qualification, solving high-reliability design challenges, and mentoring engineers through production.

Location: Onsite in Ashburn, Virginia, United States

Salary: $108,900–$150,000 per year plus bonus

What you will do

  • Lead the design and development of 3U and 6U VPX single-board computers, FPGA, switch, and I/O cards for high-speed data processing.
  • Develop custom form-factor systems integrating boards, power supplies, hardware security elements, and thermal-management solutions including Liquid-Flow-Through methods.
  • Translate customer requirements into system architectures, functional designs, and hardware solutions while balancing performance, cost, reliability, and manufacturability.
  • Lead design reviews, technical decisions, hardware testing, qualification, troubleshooting, and production support.
  • Collaborate with engineering, project management, test, and operations teams in multidisciplinary project groups.
  • Mentor engineers and establish engineering practices, procedures, documentation, and manuals that improve reliability and time to market.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering; a master’s degree is preferred.
  • At least 8 years of experience in DoD embedded systems and hardware design, including SBC, FPGA, switch, and I/O card development.
  • Experience with mixed-signal, high-speed digital, analog, low-power, and high-current circuit design in high-reliability environments.
  • Strong experience designing high-density interconnect PCBs with complex multilayer designs, multi-lamination processes, blind and buried vias, and uVia structures.
  • Hands-on experience with Siemens Expedition DX Designer and Siemens Expedition PCB tools.
  • US citizenship is required. Active DoD security clearance is preferred, and additional screening may apply for export-controlled information.
