Tooling Engineer (Aerospace)

Location: Long Beach, California, United States; onsite

Salary: $112,340–$230,472 USD per year, depending on level and qualifications.

What you will do

• Design, activate, implement, fabricate, and support fixtures and tooling for Haven-1 assembly, lifting, and handling.
• Define vehicle integration flows, manufacturing processes, tooling concepts, interfaces, specifications, and qualification plans with integration, manufacturing, vehicle engineering, and production stakeholders.
• Perform mechanical analysis for spacecraft fixtures and develop operation and maintenance plans for test fixtures and tooling.
• Manage assigned project schedules, critical next steps, deadlines, outcomes, vendor relationships, and technology evaluations.
• Develop and implement tooling improvements to reduce time and improve tolerances, coordinating modifications caused by part and production changes.
• Work with engineering stakeholders and technicians to resolve production-related issues.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or another engineering discipline.
• 5+ years of experience in aerospace or automotive tooling.
• 5+ years of experience with NX or other 3D CAD packages.
• Experience with GD&T and handling, lifting, or building large, complex assemblies.
• Knowledge of project planning and execution, including logic-linked schedule management.
• Must be a U.S. person or otherwise eligible for deemed export licensing under U.S. export control requirements.

Nice to have

• Experience with work orders and assembly instructions.
• Experience designing pneumatic, electrical, or hydraulic motion systems.
• Experience with critical lifting and break-over fixtures or integration tooling design.
• Strong communication skills and a hands-on approach to hardware development in a fast-paced environment.
