TL;DR
Director, Government Affairs (Aerospace): Leading Vast’s engagement with Congress, the U.S. Department of Defense, and national security stakeholders to advance commercial space station initiatives with an accent on defense policy, congressional advocacy, and government partnerships. Focus on developing DoD engagement strategies, analyzing legislation and appropriations, supporting contracting opportunities, and securing alignment across national security space organizations.

Location: Washington, District of Columbia, United States; onsite

Salary: $163,000–$226,000 USD per year

What you will do

  • Develop and execute DoD and national security engagement strategies aligned with government affairs and policy objectives.
  • Build relationships with the U.S. Department of Defense, U.S. Space Force, Air Force, SDA, DIU, and other defense organizations.
  • Engage Congressional committees and staff on defense, space, and appropriations matters.
  • Monitor and interpret defense policy, legislation, and appropriations developments affecting commercial space capabilities.
  • Prepare policy briefs, talking points, legislative summaries, RFIs, trade reports, and industry-government submissions.
  • Support DoD contracting opportunities, cooperative agreements, partnerships, technology initiatives, security reviews, and regulatory engagement.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of experience in government affairs, defense policy, congressional affairs, and/or national security space.
  • Experience engaging Congress on defense, national security, or space policy and funding priorities.
  • Current registered lobbyist status or willingness and ability to register as a lobbyist.
  • Ability to travel up to 25% of the time.
  • Ability to obtain an appropriate security clearance for DoD space programs.
  • Must be a U.S. person or otherwise eligible for deemed export licensing, including U.S. citizens, U.S. nationals, lawful permanent residents, asylees, or refugees with granted status.

Nice to have

  • Experience with DoD space programs and policies.
  • Experience with government contracting, procurement, Congressional appropriations, and the NDAA process.
  • Ability to simplify complex concepts and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Strong communication, analytical, collaboration, interpersonal, time-management, and prioritization skills.
