Claim Investigator (CSIU)

Location: Hybrid in Michigan, with remote work from a home office for day-to-day operations and occasional travel for meetings, collaborative activities, or team building. Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm Eastern Time.

Salary: $67,000-$87,000 annually, plus an annual company bonus incentive.

What you will do

• Assess and investigate personal lines property and casualty claims for potential claim and policy premium fraud.
• Review policies, claim documentation, public records, police and official reports, and other evidence.
• Interview insureds, claimants, witnesses, medical providers, service providers, and other involved parties.
• Conduct vehicle and home inspections, site visits, examinations under oath, and link analysis.
• Coordinate legal counsel and specialized experts, including fire investigators, accident reconstruction specialists, forensic accountants, and surveillance vendors.
• Document investigations, prepare written findings, collaborate with claim handlers and law enforcement, and provide testimony or fraud-awareness training when required.

Requirements

• College-level coursework in business administration, insurance, criminology, or a related field, or equivalent related work experience.
• Valid state driver's license; safe operation of a motor vehicle is required.
• Five years of experience handling auto or home personal lines property and casualty claims, three years in a claims special investigation unit, or five years in relevant law enforcement.
• Knowledge of insurance laws and regulations, policy coverage and eligibility rules, claim handling, and fraud investigation techniques.
• Ability to analyze complex, time-sensitive information, investigate claims independently, prepare persuasive reports, and manage multiple cases under deadlines.
• Obtain an adjuster's license within 90 days where required by state law.

Nice to have

• Bachelor's degree in business administration, insurance, criminology, or a related field.
• AIC, CPCU, Fraud Claim Law Specialist, or Certified Insurance Fraud Investigator certification.
• Experience in both claims handling and fraud investigation.
• Knowledge of medical treatment, vehicle repair, home construction, and contractor practices.
