TL;DR
Staff Environmental Test Engineer (Aerospace/Avionics): Developing and manufacturing avionics systems, wire harnesses, vibration test fixtures, thermal heat sinks, and thermal vacuum fixtures for human-rated commercial space stations with an accent on manufacturability, assembly, and environmental testing. Focus on designing manufacturing processes, performing hands-on integration and testing, resolving root causes, and ensuring compliance with aerospace quality and export-control requirements.

Location: Long Beach, California, United States; onsite position. The position requires eligibility to access U.S.-controlled export information as a U.S. person or through deemed export licensing.

Salary: $160,000–$230,000 USD per year

What you will do

  • Collaborate with design teams to improve the manufacturability and assembly of avionics components and wire harnesses.
  • Develop and optimize manufacturing processes, onboard equipment, assembly procedures, work instructions, and manufacturing plans.
  • Perform hands-on assembly, integration, environmental testing, and troubleshooting of avionics systems.
  • Resolve manufacturing challenges through root cause analysis and corrective actions.
  • Work with suppliers to review manufacturing processes and ensure timely delivery of high-quality components.
  • Participate in design reviews, quality-control activities, and continuous-improvement initiatives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
  • At least 3 years of manufacturing engineering experience, preferably in aerospace or avionics.
  • At least 3 years of experience designing and manufacturing vibration test fixtures.
  • At least 3 years of experience designing and manufacturing thermal heat sinks and thermal vacuum fixtures.
  • Understanding of SMC-S-016, avionics systems, electronics manufacturing, assembly techniques, and IPC standards.
  • Must qualify as a U.S. person or otherwise be eligible for deemed export licensing under U.S. export-control regulations.

Nice to have

  • Proficiency with CAD software such as Siemens NX.
  • Hands-on experience testing and troubleshooting avionics systems.
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing and Six Sigma methodologies.
