Senior Software Engineer, Backend (Security)

Location: Long Beach, California, United States; onsite. Travel up to 10% may be required.

Salary: $159,000–$226,000 USD annually for the Senior Software Engineer, Backend role.

What you will do

• Design, build, and maintain scalable backend services, tools, and pipelines for mission-critical security systems.
• Collaborate with engineering teams to implement secure, high-performance services and APIs.
• Develop backend infrastructure for authentication, authorization, and secure data handling.
• Establish backend architecture, security, and code-quality best practices.
• Build reliable and observable systems that support a growing codebase and engineering organization.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
• 6+ years of backend software engineering experience, including exposure to security-focused systems such as IAM, API security, or certificate management.
• Experience building and operating backend services in cloud environments.
• Proficiency in at least one modern programming language, such as Python, Go, Rust, or C++.
• Understanding of distributed systems, API design, backend architecture, Linux, command-line tools, and scripting.
• Must be a U.S. person or otherwise eligible for deemed export licensing under U.S. export-control requirements.

Nice to have

• Experience with DevOps practices and tools, including Docker and Kubernetes.
• Experience designing and scaling APIs and microservices.
• Background in cryptography, network security, or infrastructure security.
• Experience solving complex backend problems in fast-paced environments.
