TL;DR
Mechanical Engineer, Robotics Hardware (Robotics): Designing and implementing rugged mechanical systems that house sensing and compute platforms for field-deployed robots with an accent on CAD, thermal management, ingress protection, manufacturability, and environmental durability. Focus on building and testing enclosures, mounts, chassis, and thermal systems, validating designs through FEA and mechanical testing, and supporting production and field debugging.

Location: Irvine, CA, United States; primarily on-site, with hybrid or remote options open for discussion

Salary: $70,000–$300,000 annual

Company

hirify.global develops risk-aware, reliable, field-ready AI and robotics systems for operation in complex, unstructured real-world environments.

What you will do

  • Design and model external enclosures, internal compute frames, load-bearing chassis, sensor mounts, and payload interfaces.
  • Develop ingress protection and thermal management solutions using seals, membranes, coatings, fans, heat sinks, conductive paths, and airflow guides.
  • Create SolidWorks assemblies and perform FEA and thermal simulations to validate strength, durability, and heat dissipation.
  • Prototype, test, and validate systems through shock, vibration, thermal, ingress, and sensor-alignment testing.
  • Produce drawings, GD&T annotations, bills of materials, assembly instructions, and mechanical budgets.
  • Support vendors, contract manufacturers, payload integration, production scaling, field debugging, and mechanical health monitoring.

Requirements

  • B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field.
  • Proficiency with SolidWorks or an equivalent mechanical CAD platform, plus familiarity with FEA and thermal modeling tools.
  • Experience designing hardware for vibration, shock, thermal cycling, and environmental exposure.
  • Knowledge of CNC, sheet metal, additive manufacturing, assembly workflows, and design-for-manufacturing principles.
  • Experience integrating mechanical systems with compute, sensors, and power electronics.
  • Comfort with mechanical debugging, thermal test setups, vibration tables, and ingress testing.

Nice to have

  • Experience taking robotic systems from prototype to large-scale production.
  • Experience with deployed robotics, autonomous vehicles, drones, or ruggedized robots.
  • Systems-level fluency across mechanical, electrical, and software domains.
  • Experience designing to IP ratings, MIL-STD, or equivalent ruggedness standards.

Culture & Benefits

  • Work with a small, fast-moving hardware team focused on system capability, reliability, and scalability.
  • Contribute to robotics systems already deployed in real-world environments.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary engineering teams across hardware, compute, electrical, sensing, and software.
  • Inclusive workplace with employment decisions based on merit, qualifications, and performance.
