TL;DR
Staff Thermal Engineer (Aerospace): Developing thermal systems and control designs for human-rated space stations with an accent on spacecraft thermal analysis, active thermal control, and thermal vacuum testing. Focus on designing and optimizing complex thermal systems, validating them through subsystem-level TVAC tests, and integrating solutions across the full spacecraft lifecycle.

Location: Onsite in Long Beach, California, United States. The role is subject to U.S. export control requirements and requires U.S. person status or eligibility for deemed export licensing.

Salary: $175,480–$249,096 USD per year

What you will do

  • Develop thermal systems requirements and optimize thermal control designs through detailed analysis.
  • Coordinate thermal engineering activities with other engineering disciplines.
  • Document thermal analyses and designs and review drawings for thermal hardware content.
  • Present analysis results and design details to internal management and external customers.
  • Plan and execute subsystem-level thermal testing, especially thermal vacuum chamber testing, with supporting analyses.
  • Assess the cost and schedule impacts of proposed technical changes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in aerospace engineering, physics, or a related engineering discipline with 10+ years of relevant experience, or a relevant master’s degree with 5+ years of experience.
  • Strong knowledge of technical principles for developing active thermal control systems.
  • Expertise with Thermal Desktop.
  • Extensive experience with thermal vacuum chamber testing.
  • Must meet U.S. export control eligibility requirements as a U.S. person or be eligible for deemed export licensing.

Nice to have

  • Spacecraft thermal systems design, analysis, integration, or space vehicle thermal design experience.
  • Experience with FloCAD, Ansys Mechanical, SINDA/G, SINDA/FLUINT, TSS, Ansys Fluent, FloEFD, or StarCCM+.
  • Experience with NX, CATIA, or CREO.
  • Experience with active and passive thermal control technologies, including pumped fluid loops and heat pipes.
  • Experience across the spacecraft lifecycle from concept and production through integration, testing, launch, and operations support.
