Senior Spaceship Avionics Systems Engineer (Spacecraft Avionics)

Location: On-site in El Segundo, California, United States. The role requires U.S. work authorization and access to export-controlled technology as a U.S. person.

Salary: $169,000–$216,000 annually, plus potential stock options.

What you will do

• Define avionics project scopes and requirements, guiding designs from concept through prototype and production.
• Develop electrical architectures, system diagrams, and vehicle-level power, telemetry, channel-count, size, and mass budgets.
• Analyze faults and risks, develop mitigation plans, and support FDIR and operational workarounds.
• Plan and conduct verification of avionics systems on flight and HITL hardware for launch, space operations, and reentry.
• Lead avionics integration investigations and participate in mission operations as an avionics specialist or system operator.
• Design, build, and operate HITL testbeds and avionics ground infrastructure, improving test automation and engineering practices.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
• At least 5 years of experience in system design, test planning, and validation.
• Proficiency in programming and debugging with Python.
• Experience with power supplies, modular DAQ systems, RTD and 4–20 mA devices, and general test equipment.
• Must be authorized to work in the United States and qualify as a U.S. person for access to export-controlled technology.

Nice to have

• Experience taking vehicle electrical systems from concept through operational production.
• Experience setting up HITL testbeds, managing configuration control, and conducting system-level tests.
• Familiarity with Unix environments and command-line utilities.
• Experience developing test cases and equipment for vehicle operating conditions.
• Project or program management experience.
