TL;DR
Test Technician (Second Shift) (Aerospace): Conducting hypervelocity impact and ballistic tests for human-rated space station systems with an accent on light gas gun operations, high-speed imaging, vacuum systems, and test data acquisition. Focus on preparing precise test configurations, performing safety and post-test assessments, maintaining specialized equipment, and documenting results for engineering analysis.

Location: Long Beach, California, United States. Full-time second shift, 2:00 PM–10:00 PM. The role requires working onsite with occasional travel, overtime, and weekend availability as needed.

Salary: $29–$47 USD per hour.

What you will do

  • Conduct hypervelocity impact tests using light gas guns and ballistic test equipment according to approved plans and safety procedures.
  • Set up, calibrate, and operate high-speed cameras, pressure sensors, vacuum systems, and diagnostic equipment.
  • Prepare test specimens, projectiles, sabots, and shielding configurations to precise specifications.
  • Perform post-test inspections and damage assessments, documenting findings through photography, measurements, and technical reports.
  • Operate data acquisition systems, process test data, and maintain test logs, equipment records, inventories, and facilities.
  • Collaborate with engineers and technicians to troubleshoot equipment, improve procedures, and support test planning.

Requirements

  • At least 1 year of hands-on technical experience in testing, laboratory work, manufacturing, or a related field.
  • High school diploma or equivalency certificate.
  • Must qualify as a U.S. person under U.S. export control regulations or be eligible for deemed export licensing.
  • Ability to perform safety checks, risk assessments, hazard analyses, and lockout/tagout procedures.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. unassisted and work overtime or weekends when required.
  • Ability to read technical drawings, schematics, and written procedures and communicate technical results clearly.

Nice to have

  • Ballistic, hypervelocity impact, or materials testing experience.
  • Experience with high-speed imaging, data acquisition software, vacuum systems, pressure vessels, or pneumatic and hydraulic equipment.
  • Aerospace, defense, or research laboratory experience and knowledge of impact physics, ballistics, or materials science.
  • CAD experience with NX, SolidWorks, or AutoCAD for fixture design and test documentation.
  • Experience operating precision measurement instruments and troubleshooting mechanical and electrical systems.
