Actuarial Associate (Insurance)

Location: New Haven, Connecticut, US; hybrid work arrangement. Authorization to work in the United States is required.

Salary: $106,000–$180,000 annually when performed in Connecticut.

What you will do

• Perform annuity and accident and health/long-term care statutory and IFRS valuation, including formula reserves, first-principles reserving, and cash flow testing.
• Assist with quarterly and annual life insurance valuation and financial reporting.
• Use actuarial modeling software to assess risk and provide management information for product development, valuation, and ALM activities.
• Conduct actuarial research, audits, experience studies, statistical analysis, and calculations.
• Support policyholders by answering questions, relaying information, and providing manual calculation support to the administrative system.
• For exam-track employees, prepare for and sit actuarial exams and meet the minimum program requirements for exam progress.

Requirements

• BA or BS degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, or Actuarial Science.
• At least one actuarial exam.
• Actuarial software experience; knowledge of the AXIS Actuarial modeling system is preferred.
• Knowledge of the insurance industry.
• Strong mathematical, communication, and business judgment skills.
• Ability to learn new concepts quickly and apply them to solve problems.
• Ability to remain in a stationary position for most of the workday.

Nice to have

• Two or more years of related actuarial and insurance industry experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
• Long-term care experience.
• ASA designation.
• Long-term care or annuity statutory valuation experience.
