Managing Actuary (Health Insurance)

Location: Chicago, Illinois, United States; hybrid schedule with a minimum of three days in the office and two days remote.

Base pay: $102,000–$184,300 annually, plus eligibility for an annual incentive bonus.

What you will do

• Manage the implementation, maintenance, critical review, and analysis of actuarial models, studies, and systems.
• Apply actuarial principles to pricing, underwriting, statistics, reserving, forecasting, and other actuarial functions.
• Develop complex models and teach others how to develop models.
• Prepare written and oral presentations that support decision-making.
• Manage day-to-day projects, including projects involving non-actuarial departments.
• Demonstrate deep expertise in one actuarial area or business segment.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, or another bachelor’s or higher degree that may be considered.
• Associate of the Society of Actuaries (ASA) and membership in the American Academy of Actuaries (MAAA), with compliance with the membership requirements for each designation.
• At least four years of actuarial experience in health insurance or a related field.
• Verbal and written communication skills for preparing documentation, facilitating training and development, and participating in presentations.
• PC proficiency, including Microsoft Word and Excel.

• Pharmacy actuarial experience.
• Medicare experience.
• Health insurance or managed care experience.
• SQL experience.
• SAS, R, or other programming experience.
• Strong analytical and data modeling skills.
• Advanced Excel and PowerPoint proficiency.
• Experience analyzing large healthcare datasets.
