Stop Loss Underwriter (Insurance)

Location: Remote within the United States; candidates should be comfortable with an on-site presence to support collaboration, team leadership, and cross-functional partnership.

Base compensation: $60,000–$85,000 per year.

What you will do

• Review employer census data, claims experience, large claimant reports, and medical diagnoses.
• Evaluate specific and aggregate exposure and establish attachment points, lasers, and aggregate corridors.
• Price stop loss coverage according to underwriting guidelines and profitability objectives.
• Underwrite new employer groups and analyze renewal performance to determine rate adjustments.
• Assess emerging large claims and recurrence risk while providing alternative quoting strategies.
• Communicate underwriting decisions and support producers during negotiations while partnering with clinical underwriting, policy administration, and claims teams.

Requirements

• At least 2 years of stop loss underwriting experience, preferably covering specific and aggregate products.
• Strong knowledge of self-funded health plan structures.
• Experience reviewing large claimant reports and medical diagnoses.
• Proficiency with underwriting models and rating tools.
• Ability to comply with state and federal regulations and delegated underwriting authority.
