Senior Structures Engineer, Lunar

Location: Onsite in Long Beach, California, United States. Full-time position with up to 5% travel to support vendors, partners, or customer meetings.

Salary: $137,000–$230,000 USD per year in California.

What you will do

• Own end-to-end structural engineering projects for lunar habitation modules, airlocks, nodes, pallets, and related systems.
• Design and develop primary and secondary structures, pressure vessels, closeouts, mechanisms, and micrometeoroid shielding using NX or equivalent CAD tools.
• Define structural requirements, design loads, safety margins, and environmental considerations for human-rated pressurized structures on the lunar surface.
• Perform mechanical design and analysis, create manufacturing drawings, and lead hardware from concept through build and delivery.
• Coordinate interfaces with pressure vessel, hatch and seal, Life Support, Thermal, Power, and Avionics teams.
• Plan and execute structural, pressure, hatch, and seal verification testing; support hardware checkout and anomaly resolution.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Civil Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or a related field.
• 5+ years of structural design experience with aerospace pressurized or human-rated hardware and direct ownership through hardware delivery.
• 5+ years of experience with CAD and FEA software, including NX or equivalent, plus GD&T implementation and analysis under ASME Y14.5.
• Demonstrated ownership of a structural hardware item through design, build, and test, rather than analysis alone.
• Must be a U.S. person under U.S. export control regulations or otherwise eligible for deemed export licensing.
• Ability to travel up to 5% and willingness to work evenings or weekends during critical mission milestones.

Nice to have

• Experience with lunar engineering programs, spacecraft, high-performance vehicles, pressure vessels, hatches, or crewed habitats.
• Familiarity with SMC-S-016, NASA-STD-5001, Ansys, Femap/Nastran, or Abaqus.
• Experience leading proof pressure, burst, functional seal, or hatch cycling tests.
• Knowledge of lunar or deep-space thermal, radiation, and solar environments.
• Experience in a fast-paced commercial space or startup hardware environment.
