Staff Software Engineer (School Safety Platform)

Location: United States; remote role

Salary: $190,000–$220,000 per year

What you will do

• Lead architecture, technical design, and implementation of new school safety products from concept through production.
• Drive technical strategy and engineering excellence across multiple teams and systems.
• Design scalable, secure, resilient distributed systems for real-world school environments.
• Build integrations with third-party platforms, identity providers, communication systems, hardware devices, and external data sources.
• Partner with Product, Design, engineering leaders, principal engineers, and other stakeholders to translate customer needs into technical solutions.
• Mentor engineers, raise engineering standards, and make technology decisions balancing impact, operational complexity, speed, and maintainability.

Requirements

• 8+ years of experience building and operating production software systems.
• End-to-end ownership of complex backend or full-stack systems.
• Strong experience with distributed systems, APIs, event-driven architectures, and cloud-native applications.
• Experience with third-party APIs, webhooks, data synchronization, OAuth, SAML, and SSO.
• Strong fundamentals in system design, data modeling, observability, reliability, performance, security, privacy, and compliance.
• Experience delivering 0-to-1 products or major platform initiatives and influencing technical direction through collaboration and mentorship.

• Experience with real-time, high-reliability, or operationally critical systems.
• Distributed, event-driven, or edge-to-cloud architectures.
• IoT platforms, connected devices, device fleet management, or hardware integrations.
• Platforms involving physical devices, kiosks, peripherals, sensors, or endpoint technologies.
• Physical security, operational technology, critical infrastructure, or other resilience-focused environments.
