Test & Evaluation Operator (Autonomous Vehicles)

Location: Pittsburgh, PA, United States; on-site. Travel to other operational sites and partner proving grounds is required.

What you will do

• Operate Class 8 autonomous and manual vehicles on closed courses and public roads according to vehicle operator standards.
• Execute platform verification, validation, release testing, safety-limit testing, driver-override testing, supervised-autonomy stability checks, and fault injection.
• Conduct vehicle dynamics and characterization campaigns, including tire evaluation, trailer stability, and axle-weight verification.
• Produce precise written evaluations that distinguish baseline from novel behavior and identify reproducibility, conditions, and magnitude.
• Administer operator knowledge and proficiency checks, certify and train operators, and maintain platform-specific operating documentation.
• Own DOT and CVSA compliance reviews, escalate safety-relevant findings, and stop testing when vehicle or equipment behavior warrants it.

Requirements

• 8+ years as a vehicle operator, commercial test driver, or in an equivalent Class 8 operations role, including 4 years working with autonomous or ADAS-equipped vehicles.
• Class A CDL, current Medical Examiner's Certificate, clean driving record, successful background check, and drug screen.
• Strong technical aptitude with autonomy platforms and the ability to characterize vehicle behavior precisely.
• Experience with closed-course and proving-ground protocols, including edge-case and failure-mode testing.
• Working knowledge of FMCSA and DOT requirements, including DVIR, Hours of Service, DOT annual inspection, CVSA out-of-service criteria, and 49 CFR Parts 393 and 396.
• Ability to work flexible shifts, including days, nights, and weekends.

• Experience training, coaching, or certifying commercial drivers.
• CVSA Enhanced Pre-trip certification and proving-ground experience or licenses.
