Intellectual Property Attorney

Location: Spring, Texas, United States of America

Salary: $147,050–$190,000 USD annually, with additional bonus and/or equity opportunities for US candidates.

What you will do

• Develop patent portfolio strategies with R&D teams, including invention harvesting, filing, prosecution, maintenance, and abandonment decisions.
• Evaluate patent family strength, remaining term, geographic coverage, enforceability, competitive relevance, and business alignment.
• Advise on and negotiate IP provisions covering licensing, exclusivity, ownership, confidentiality, indemnification, commercialization, and enforcement rights.
• Draft and review patent licenses, cross-licenses, supplier and customer agreements, technology development agreements, and collaboration agreements.
• Support IP due diligence by mapping patent portfolios to products, technologies, standards, and transaction objectives.
• Prepare portfolio reviews, legal memoranda, risk assessments, and strategic recommendations while managing outside counsel and contributing to dispute-related matters.

Requirements

• Qualified patent attorney, such as a US or European patent attorney.
• Technical degree in electrical engineering, computer science, physics, or a closely related field.
• 4–7 years of IP legal experience in a high-technology environment, preferably supporting global R&D teams and businesses.
• Strong knowledge of patent law, patent portfolio management, IP licensing, IP ownership, and legal risk mitigation.
• Experience with standards-setting organizations, standards-essential patents, and IP-sensitive transactions.
• Excellent collaboration, influencing, written communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
