Staff Sustaining Mechanical Engineer (Robotics)

Location: Waltham, Massachusetts, United States. Candidates must be eligible to work in the United States; visa sponsorship is not available.

Base salary: $120,000–$145,000 annually, plus an annual bonus structure.

What you will do

• Support and continuously improve the reliability, manufacturability, functionality, and capability of the Spot robotic platform.
• Own substantial portions of robotic subsystem sustainment and drive technical decisions and cross-functional integration.
• Conduct root-cause failure analysis for field and production issues, then design, test, and implement corrective and preventive measures.
• Create engineering change orders and maintain technical documentation, including part and assembly drawings and bills of material.
• Evaluate designs for design for assembly, design for manufacturing, reliability, and cost reduction.
• Collaborate with quality, manufacturing, and supply chain partners and qualify replacement components for obsolete parts.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field.
• 5+ years of mechanical design experience, including significant work in robotics, automation, or complex electromechanical systems.
• Experience leading major subsystem or complete mechanical product designs through production launch and post-launch support.
• Expertise in mechanical design and manufacturing for robotic applications, including mechanisms, actuation systems, and high-performance structures.
• Advanced CATIA or equivalent experience with NX or SolidWorks, including 3D modeling, 2D drawings, and simulation.
• Experience with PLM systems, engineering change processes, GD&T according to ASME Y14.5, and manufacturing processes such as CNC machining, 3D printing, sheet metal fabrication, injection molding, and die casting.
