Tech Lead Manager (AI Platform)

What you will do

• Lead, hire, coach, and level a pod of applied AI and ML engineers.
• Own matching, ranking, retrieval, personalization, and agentic systems at the code level.
• Design data and labeling strategies, features, embeddings, model selection, training, and fine-tuning.
• Solve difficult modeling problems such as cold starts, ranking plateaus, and offline-versus-production evaluation gaps.
• Build evaluation frameworks for quality, reliability, and business impact, including trust and safety guardrails.
• Translate ambiguous business goals into quarterly plans and ship improvements across quality, cost, and latency.

Requirements

• Staff-level individual-contributor depth in machine learning or applied AI.
• Production experience with ML or LLM systems used at scale, including retrieval, ranking, recommendation, or agentic workflows.
• At least 1 year of managing or formally tech-leading engineers, or 4+ years setting technical direction across multiple teams for the Technical Director path.
• Ability to evaluate model quality against business outcomes and distinguish real improvements from noise.
• Strong data fluency, including writing SQL and validating experiment metrics.
• Willingness to write production code every week and document operating norms, decisions, and postmortems.
