Sr. Manager, Data Engineering

Location: Remote

Salary: $170,000–$210,000 base salary annually

What you will do

• Set the technical vision and roadmap for Business Intelligence data engineering.
• Design, build, and review scalable ETL/ELT pipelines and workflow orchestration systems using Python and SQL.
• Architect and optimize data warehouse models for advanced analytics, self-service BI, and operational reporting.
• Establish standards for reliability, observability, testing, performance, data quality, lineage, and governance.
• Partner with product engineering, Product, Analytics, Security, and Legal on schemas, event models, compliance, and platform decisions.
• Lead, mentor, and develop a data engineering team while owning planning, prioritization, and delivery.

Requirements

• 8–10+ years of experience in data engineering or a related field, including 3–5+ years leading and managing data or software engineers.
• 5+ years of advanced SQL and 5+ years of production Python development, including unit and integration testing.
• Hands-on experience designing, building, and maintaining end-to-end ETL/ELT pipelines.
• Proficiency with cloud data platforms and modern ingestion, transformation, and orchestration tools.
• Strong knowledge of relational modeling, warehouse design, Git, CI/CD, data governance, security, and compliance.
• Ability to define technical strategy and standards while contributing directly to production systems.

Nice to have

• Experience with Snowflake, Fivetran, dbt, Prefect, and AWS.
• Experience with enterprise BI platforms, self-service analytics, and batch or real-time ingestion.
• Experience leading data engineering teams in a startup or high-growth environment.
• Healthcare experience, including HL7, FHIR, HIPAA, or GDPR.
