Principal AI Engineer

Location: Hybrid in Mississauga, Canada, with residence within commuting distance of the specified office required. Regular team attendance at the office is expected.

Salary: CAD 191,700–213,000 per year, plus bonus and benefits.

What you will do

• Design and document enterprise AI platform architectures and reference implementations for agentic systems, RAG pipelines, and multimodal AI applications.
• Define architectural standards and patterns for model serving, prompt management, vector storage, evaluation frameworks, and LLMOps.
• Integrate guardrails, observability, security controls, compliance frameworks, and cost optimization into AI/ML workloads.
• Lead technical evaluations and vendor assessments for model gateways, vector databases, and AI observability tools.
• Translate product and business requirements into scalable architectures and guide consistent implementation across product teams.
• Establish multi-cloud deployment patterns across Azure and AWS and support production-ready AI infrastructure.

Requirements

• 8+ years of experience in cloud architecture and platform engineering with AWS and/or Azure, including 3+ years focused on AI/ML infrastructure and GenAI solutions.
• Experience designing enterprise-scale AI/ML platforms for multiple product teams and use cases.
• Strong expertise in cloud-native architecture, microservices, event-driven systems, serverless patterns, and Kubernetes.
• Deep understanding of RAG, agentic frameworks such as LangGraph and CrewAI, prompt engineering, and LLM evaluation.
• Experience with vector databases such as Pinecone, Weaviate, or pgvector; model serving platforms such as vLLM, SGLang, or Azure AI; and prompt management systems.
• Must be able to reside within commuting distance of the Mississauga office for the hybrid work arrangement.

Nice to have

• Experience with Azure OpenAI Service, Azure AI Studio, and Azure Machine Learning in healthcare or regulated industries.
• Familiarity with OpenTelemetry, MLFlow, Arize, LangSmith, and production AI monitoring.
• Understanding of HIPAA, PHIPA, and security frameworks for AI applications.
• Experience with Terraform, Bicep, and GitOps practices.
