Software Engineer – Data Engineering Platform (Python/PostGIS)

Location: Boston, United States; hybrid attendance normally expected at least two days per week. Remote arrangements may be considered subject to approval.

What you will do

• Design, develop, test and maintain Python-based ETL pipelines for large geospatial and energy datasets.
• Build and optimise PostgreSQL/PostGIS schemas, SQL queries and spatial data workflows.
• Develop automated ingestion, validation, transformation and data-promotion processes.
• Monitor data quality and investigate issues affecting the accuracy, completeness and reliability of data products.
• Maintain Linux-based data-processing environments, scheduled jobs and automation tooling.
• Collaborate with product, GIS and data science colleagues to deliver reliable data products and improve data-platform processes.

Requirements

• Practical software development experience with Python.
• Advanced knowledge of PostgreSQL and SQL, including database design and query-performance optimisation.
• Experience with PostGIS or comparable geospatial database technologies.
• Experience building and maintaining ETL or data-engineering pipelines and processing large or complex datasets.
• Experience implementing validation and data-quality controls, with strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills.
• Working knowledge of Linux administration, scripting and automation, plus the ability to communicate technical information and collaborate across disciplines.

Nice to have

• Experience with Elasticsearch, AWS services, particularly Amazon S3, TypeScript, Node.js or REST APIs.
• Knowledge of GIS formats such as Shapefile and GeoJSON, spatial indexing or geospatial analytics.
• Experience with data modelling, machine learning, statistical analysis or energy, land, mineral rights, oil and gas, renewables, electrical-grid or carbon datasets.
