Plasma and Laser Physics Engineer

Location: On-site in San Diego, California, United States; a flexible workplace arrangement may allow remote work up to two days per week for eligible roles. Travel to customer sites is required as needed.

Base annual salary: $117,750–$176,625.

What you will do

• Develop system-level expertise in EUV light-source performance, laser generation and amplification, laser-plasma interactions, debris mitigation, and control systems.
• Design, execute, document, and analyze scientific experiments for prototype validation and product development.
• Develop system and subsystem test plans with traceability to system requirements.
• Process and analyze large datasets using MATLAB, Python, and automated diagnostic tools.
• Troubleshoot complex performance issues, perform root-cause analysis, and recommend corrective and design improvements.
• Collaborate with architects, design engineers, scientists, manufacturing teams, customer support, and leadership while supporting customer escalations, technical training, and system recovery.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Plasma Physics, Engineering Physics, Applied Physics, or a related field; a master’s degree or PhD is preferred.
• At least 5 years of related experience.
• Experience with optics, laser-induced plasma, optical metrology, control systems, and complex multidisciplinary system integration.
• Experience designing and executing scientific experiments for product development and validation.
• Proficiency with MATLAB, Python, or similar data-analysis and modeling tools.
• Must be legally authorized to access United States-controlled technology before beginning work. Must be willing to work in a clean-room environment and follow hirify.global safety procedures.

Nice to have

• Experience with semiconductor equipment development.
• Hands-on experience operating optical, electrical, or plasma-related laboratory instrumentation.
• Master’s degree or PhD in a relevant field.
