Materials Engineering Consultant - AP

Location: Seoul, South Korea; occasional travel to manufacturing sites and equipment manufacturers across Asia Pacific, averaging 35% of the time

What you will do

• Provide technical leadership in selecting and applying metallic and non-metallic materials, including plastics, elastomers, and composites, for process equipment and piping systems.
• Interpret ASME, API, ASTM, OSHA, local vessel codes, and RAGAGEPs, and develop corporate engineering standards for non-metallic systems.
• Support equipment design, procurement, fabrication, inspection, installation, vendor qualification, and capital project execution.
• Lead failure investigations, identify mechanical, corrosion, environmental, and wear-related root causes, and recommend corrective actions.
• Perform or interpret materials identification, compositional analysis, microstructural evaluation, mechanical property assessment, and manufacturing process reviews.
• Support corrosion monitoring, integrity operating windows, corrosion testing, material selection, and cross-regional materials engineering competency.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Materials Science, Materials Engineering, Metallurgy, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
• Minimum 10 years of experience in materials engineering, materials application, and plant technical support for chemical process equipment and systems.
• Strong experience with metallic and non-metallic materials, including polymers, elastomers, composites, plastic piping and vessels, FRP tanks, and plastic-lined systems.
• Experience in failure analysis, root cause investigations, corrosion mechanisms, materials selection, engineering documentation, and regulatory or industry standard interpretation.
• Ability to work independently and cross-functionally in manufacturing or industrial environments.
• Availability to travel within the Asia Pacific region for project support, averaging 35% of the time.

Nice to have

• Chemical process engineering experience.
• Experience with SEM, XRD, FTIR, metallography, corrosion testing, or electrochemical analysis.
• Familiarity with equipment fabrication, inspection, mechanical integrity programs, Process Safety Management, and incident investigations.
