TL;DR
Embedded Linux BSP Engineer (Robotics): Developing and maintaining real-time Linux platforms for advanced robotic systems with an accent on kernel tuning, Yocto BSP management, and hardware bring-up. Focus on ensuring deterministic performance for kHz-class control loops and safety-critical integration.

Location: On-site in Munich, Metzingen/Riederich (Germany), or Zurich (Switzerland)

What you will do

  • Own the operating system, kernel, and board-support layer for diverse robotic platforms.
  • Manage real-time Linux platforms using co-kernel and kernel-preemption approaches to meet timing requirements.
  • Perform SOM board bring-up and maintain Yocto BSPs for various hardware revisions.
  • Conduct WCET analysis and implement RT memory management practices.
  • Collaborate on safety integration at the kernel level, including E-stop and safety PLC integration.
  • Develop build, flash, and test automation for the engineering organization.

Requirements

  • Must be able to work on-site in Germany or Switzerland.
  • Strong background in Embedded Linux BSP engineering with hands-on Yocto/OpenEmbedded experience.
  • Practical experience in real-time Linux kernel patching, tuning, and scheduling-oriented reasoning.
  • Solid C and C++ skills at the kernel/driver boundary.
  • Experience with ARM SoCs and multi-cluster configurations.
  • Working knowledge of WCET analysis methodology and tooling.

Nice to have

  • Familiarity with EtherCAT for fieldbus-boundary timing analysis.
  • Exposure to functional safety engineering practices (ISO 26262, IEC 61508, or ISO 10218).
  • Experience with PTP/IEEE 1588 hardware timestamping.
  • Background in robotics, motion control, or industrial automation.
