What you will do
- Own the fidelity of URDF and xacro robot descriptions as the single source of truth across mechanical, controls, and software teams.
- Define the CAD-to-URDF pipeline, naming conventions, coordinate-frame standards, and version-control practices.
- Reconcile mass, inertia, kinematic structures, CAD assemblies, and real hardware.
- Design validation methods for simulation and physical robots so modeling errors are identified early.
- Establish CAD modeling standards with the mechanical engineering team.
- Build automation and tooling for repeatable model generation and simulation pipelines.
Requirements
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Robotics, Mechatronics, or a related field.
- Proven experience authoring and owning URDF and xacro models for real robots from scratch.
- Strong understanding of rigid-body kinematics and dynamics, coordinate frames, mass, and inertia properties.
- Mechanical design experience in robotics and the ability to read CAD assemblies and extract physical properties.
- Proficiency in Python and C++ with experience in version control, modular maintainable code, and basic testing.
- Experience building tooling, standards, and simulation pipelines from scratch in an early-stage environment.
Nice to have
- Experience with Isaac Sim, Gazebo, or MuJoCo.
- C++ experience for performance-critical tooling and modeling integration into CI.
- Experience with humanoid, legged, or other complex multi-limb robots.
- Experience with ROS or ROS 2.
- Experience with Creo, SolidWorks, Fusion 360, Onshape, or similar CAD tools.
