Thermal Engineer II (Aerospace)

Location: Hybrid in San Jose, California; on-site three days per week

Salary: $144,000–$177,000 per year, plus equity and benefits

What you will do

• Build and run spacecraft thermal models using Thermal Desktop or a similar tool.
• Perform TVAC margin analysis, conduction and radiation hand calculations, and transient analyses.
• Own thermal analysis packages for spacecraft assemblies or subsystems from start to finish.
• Size radiators and heaters and define component thermal limits and margins.
• Support thermal verification and TVAC test campaigns, including data reduction.
• Coordinate thermal interfaces with mechanical, electrical, and systems teams and mentor interns and junior engineers.

Requirements

• 5+ years of spacecraft or aerospace thermal engineering experience, or BS+5 / MS+3 equivalent experience.
• Independent experience with Thermal Desktop or an equivalent thermal analysis package.
• Experience with TVAC or other spacecraft thermal testing.
• Strong understanding of conduction and radiation fundamentals and hand calculations.
• B.S. or higher in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Physics, or a related field.
• Must meet U.S. export-control eligibility requirements for access to controlled information.

Nice to have

• Scripting experience in Python or MATLAB.
• Mechanical CAD experience, preferably SolidWorks.
• Experience with IR-imaging systems or spacecraft payloads.
