Senior Lead Automation Engineer (Connected Automation)

Location: Hybrid in Apex, North Carolina, in the Raleigh-Durham area; consideration given to candidates in Burlington, Massachusetts and Conshohocken, Pennsylvania. Work across multiple offices and client sites as project needs require.

What you will do

• Lead end-to-end automation design for pharmaceutical, biologics, and cell and gene therapy projects.
• Act as the technical authority for automation architectures, standards, and best practices.
• Develop, review, and approve process descriptions, functional design specifications, control narratives, and automation design documentation.
• Design PLC-, SCADA-, and DCS-based control systems and review vendor and system integrator deliverables.
• Support design reviews, FAT/SAT, commissioning, site execution, and installation sign-off.
• Coordinate automation contractors and system integrators while mentoring junior and intermediate engineers.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Automation, Electrical, Electronics Engineering, or a similar discipline.
• 10+ years of experience delivering industrial automation projects, preferably in pharmaceutical, biopharmaceutical, or cell and gene therapy environments.
• Hands-on experience with PLC/DCS control system design, industrial automation architectures, software design, and S88.
• Knowledge of GMP, GAMP 5, 21 CFR Part 11, and industrial communications and networks including Ethernet/IP, Profinet, Profibus, or ControlNet.
• Ability to lead technical workstreams and communicate effectively with clients, vendors, and multidisciplinary teams.
• Ability to work from the specified US locations and attend multiple offices and client sites as required.

Nice to have

• Professional Engineer license, preferably in California, Pennsylvania, or Massachusetts.
