TL;DR
Senior Mechanical Engineer (Spacecraft): Designing and building flight-ready spacecraft structures, mechanisms, thermal systems, and assemblies from concept through production with an accent on mechanical design, analysis, prototyping, and environmental testing. Focus on validating hardware through FEA, thermal analysis, tolerance stack-ups, integration testing, and root-cause troubleshooting for reliable spacecraft operation in orbit.

Location: On-site in the Greater Seattle Area, United States

Salary: $150,000–$200,000 annually

Builds spacecraft infrastructure for the orbital economy, including satellite systems for energy transmission, on-orbit compute, and secure optical data connectivity.

What you will do

  • Own the mechanical design of spacecraft components and assemblies from concept through production.
  • Design structures, mechanisms, thermal solutions, and packaging for space environments.
  • Perform FEA, thermal analysis, and tolerance stack-ups to validate designs.
  • Drive rapid prototyping, hardware builds, integration, and environmental testing.
  • Collaborate with propulsion, power, avionics, GNC, and software engineering teams.
  • Troubleshoot hardware issues, conduct root-cause analysis, and work with suppliers and manufacturers on scalable production.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience designing mechanical systems for aerospace or high-performance hardware.
  • Experience taking hardware from concept through build and test.
  • Strong fundamentals in mechanics, materials, and thermal systems.
  • Proficiency with CAD tools such as NX, SolidWorks, or similar.
  • Must satisfy U.S. ITAR eligibility requirements, including U.S. citizenship, lawful permanent residence, protected individual status, or eligibility to obtain the required U.S. Department of State authorizations.

Nice to have

  • Experience designing for thermal, vibration, and vacuum conditions in space environments.
  • Background in spacecraft structures, mechanisms, or thermal systems.
  • Experience with FEA or thermal analysis tools.
  • Hands-on prototyping, machining, or test setup experience.
  • Experience in a high-growth or early-stage hardware company.
