Principal Cyber Security Engineer, Strategy and Architecture

Location: Hybrid role based in Carlsbad, California; Tempe, Arizona; Reston, Virginia; or Marlborough, Massachusetts. US Citizenship required. Travel of up to 20% may be required.

Salary: $230,000–$363,000 annually. For specific work locations within San Jose, the San Francisco Bay Area, and the New York City metropolitan area, the range is $285,500–$428,500 annually.

What you will do

• Translate enterprise security strategy into domain-specific engineering requirements, secure architectures, and repeatable technical patterns.
• Design, develop, and validate secure systems, communications networks, security controls, segmentation strategies, encryption mechanisms, identity controls, and monitoring systems.
• Provide technical leadership across security engineering, security operations, infrastructure, networking, and product engineering.
• Document technical decisions, identify tooling gaps, and improve operational processes and security-impacting services.
• Support responsible AI adoption and help enforce security policies and compliance with NIST, ISO 27001, GDPR, and CCPA.
• Mentor security engineers and junior and mid-level security staff while collaborating with executives, product owners, engineering teams, and external partners.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Cybersecurity, or a related technical field.
• 10+ years of experience in security engineering, systems engineering, network engineering, or similar roles.
• Strong knowledge of secure system design, communications networks, cybersecurity controls, threat modeling, routing, wireless communications, encryption, and network security architecture.
• Hands-on experience managing enterprise security technologies such as firewalls, IDS/IPS, PKI, SIEM/SOAR, EDR/NDR, CSPM/CNAPP, and zero trust.
• Ability to analyze risk and balance security, performance, and reliability across organizational boundaries.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to influence collaborators at multiple levels.

Nice to have

• Experience with satellite or similar communications networks.
• Experience with FedRAMP, CMMC, HIPAA, PCI-DSS, or SOC 2 environments.
• Zero-trust architecture implementation experience.
• CISSP, CISM, GIAC, or SABSA certification.
