Senior Backend Engineer (Data Platform)

Location: Ramat Gan, Israel; the role is also described as fully remote.

What you will do

• Own backend microservices from architecture and API design through deployment, observability, and performance tuning.
• Architect and optimize distributed ETL infrastructure for high throughput and sub-second reliability.
• Build, orchestrate, and scale batch and real-time data pipelines for analytics, exports, and UI integrations.
• Collaborate with Product, Data Science, Analytics, and R&D teams on complex data movement and backend integration requirements.
• Improve engineering quality through design reviews, code reviews, architecture discussions, and technical mentorship.

Requirements

• 5+ years of backend engineering experience with distributed microservices.
• Experience designing data-intensive systems and high-throughput batch or real-time pipelines.
• Strong knowledge of relational and analytical databases, including Postgres, Databricks, and Snowflake, with experience optimizing queries and storage at scale.
• Strong foundations in system design, data structures, API design, automated testing, and production observability.
• Excellent proficiency with AWS or GCP and Terraform.
• BSc in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience, plus demonstrated use of generative AI tools for productivity.

Nice to have

• Strong Python experience building modular microservice APIs, asynchronous tasks, and testable data-processing packages.
• Hands-on PySpark experience with multi-terabyte batch and streaming workloads, including execution-plan, memory, data-skew, and shuffle optimization.
