TL;DR
Spacecraft Propulsion Engineer II (Aerospace) (bipropellant propulsion): Designing, analyzing, testing, and operating in-space propulsion systems including thrusters, valves, and pressure components with an accent on thermal-fluids analysis, hardware qualification, and integrated spacecraft delivery. Focus on executing test campaigns, supporting on-orbit missions, resolving anomalies, and assessing propulsion system risks.

Location: Redondo Beach, United States; onsite. Flexible schedule and travel may be required. Must meet U.S. ITAR eligibility requirements, including being a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, protected individual, or eligible to obtain required authorizations.

Salary: $110,000–$160,000 per year, plus potential stock options.

What you will do

  • Own design, analysis, implementation, and operation of in-space propulsion system elements, including bipropellant thrusters, valves, and pressure components.
  • Conduct performance and functional analyses and hardware testing.
  • Create and execute development, acceptance, and qualification test campaigns.
  • Support on-orbit missions through flight-data reviews and anomaly resolution.
  • Perform mission-specific analyses and risk assessments for program stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, and operations teams to deliver reliable, integrated spacecraft systems.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or science.
  • 3+ years of experience in aerospace propulsion and prior work with bipropellant rocket propulsion systems.
  • Knowledge of fluids, thermodynamics, heat transfer, mechanics, and materials.
  • Ability to perform system trades, including thermal-fluids analyses and materials selection.
  • Hands-on experience with fluid, mechanical, electrical, and controls systems.
  • Ability to operate complex test systems, including vacuum pumps and vacuum chambers, and work collaboratively in small teams.

Nice to have

  • Master’s degree in aerospace or mechanical engineering.
  • Lead experience with ground-test or flight propulsion systems.
  • Experience with in-space propulsion, preflight mission analysis, and on-orbit mission operations.
  • Familiarity with NASA and DoD propulsion standards, SINDA/FLUINT, GFSSP, or similar tools.
  • CAD proficiency and experience in a startup or agile development environment.
