TL;DR
Spacecraft Systems Engineer (Aerospace): Designing spacecraft missions and system architectures with an accent on requirements engineering, technical budgets, system interfaces, and verification activities. Focus on performing complex system-level trade studies, coordinating subsystem teams, supporting spacecraft integration and environmental testing, and assisting with in-orbit commissioning.

Location: Hybrid role based at hirify.global UK in Harwell, Oxfordshire, Didcot

What you will do

  • Develop spacecraft mission and system designs, balancing mission needs and achievable technical solutions.
  • Derive, allocate, verify, and maintain traceability for system requirements.
  • Perform system-level trade studies, design assessments, and technical analyses.
  • Maintain spacecraft technical budgets covering mass, power, data, and propellant.
  • Own system-level documentation and interfaces, including CONOPS, V&V plans, DDVPs, ICDs, space-to-ground, TMTC, and related artefacts.
  • Support spacecraft integration, verification, environmental testing, mission reviews, operations, and in-orbit commissioning.

Requirements

  • At least 2 years of experience in satellite systems engineering.
  • Understanding of the critical subsystems comprising a satellite mission.
  • Experience with requirements derivation, verification, and traceability.
  • Ability to perform complex technical trade-offs and coordinate activities across subsystem engineering teams.
  • Excellent communication skills and confidence presenting technical analyses to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Comfortable using Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Nice to have

  • Knowledge of attitude and orbit control systems and experience with satellite-level AIT.
  • Exposure to system FFTs, STB, TMTC, MIB, mission operations, and ESA missions.
  • Experience with GMAT, Orekit, Python, MATLAB, or other analysis tools.
  • Experience with FMECA, FDIR, fault-tree analysis, or reliability engineering.
