Graduate Spacecraft OR Mission Systems Engineer (Space Systems): Developing and delivering complex spacecraft and mission systems from early concepts through later lifecycle milestones with an accent on requirements, system architectures, trade-off analysis, and technical risk management. Focus on balancing customer and internal needs, coordinating multidisciplinary stakeholders, and communicating system-level issues to technical and non-technical audiences.

Location: Hybrid role based at hirify.global UK in Harwell, Didcot, Oxfordshire, United Kingdom. Applicants must already have the right to work in the UK; visa sponsorship is not available.

What you will do

  • Help define mission concepts, requirements, timelines, and technical solutions based on customer and stakeholder needs.
  • Support system architecture and design maturation across early and late product lifecycle stages.
  • Prepare trade-off analyses using objective system analysis and engineering judgment.
  • Manage system baselines and technical changes throughout the system lifecycle.
  • Identify and communicate mission- and system-level risks, agreeing mitigation plans with engineers and stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with project managers, leadership, customers, suppliers, and engineers to resolve complex technical issues and reach consensus.

Requirements

  • University degree in engineering, physics, mathematics, or another relevant technical discipline.
  • Ability to explain technical issues to technical non-experts and non-technical project stakeholders.
  • Confidence presenting technical topics clearly to engineers and project managers.
  • Ability to understand the bigger picture while maintaining focus on important technical details.
  • Strong organisation of tasks, details, and technical notes.
  • Experience with scientific or engineering computing, such as Python, C++, or MATLAB/Simulink.

Nice to have

  • At least one year of space systems engineering or similarly complex systems experience, including internships, placements, or university projects.
  • Knowledge of satellite subsystems such as avionics, command and data handling, power, thermal, GNC, or AOCS.
  • Exposure to requirements engineering, verification planning, interface control, or configuration-controlled documentation.
  • Knowledge of orbital mechanics, spacecraft AIT, system testing, test beds, TMTC, or mission operations.
  • Familiarity with ECSS and other space industry standards.
