TL;DR
Hardware Design Engineer (FPGA): Building advanced digital processing systems, high-speed digital boards, and FPGA-based subsystems for space-based and critical communication platforms with an accent on high-speed interfaces, mixed-signal circuits, and hardware-firmware co-design. Focus on developing synthesizable RTL, integrating and debugging flight hardware, verifying signal and power integrity, and completing worst-case analysis and flight qualification.

Location: Tempe, Arizona, United States

Salary: $132,500–$209,500 annually. For specific work locations in San Jose, the San Francisco Bay Area, and the New York City metropolitan area: $164,500–$246,500 annually.

Company

hirify.global develops communication systems that connect consumers, businesses, governments, and military organizations worldwide.

What you will do

  • Design and implement high-speed digital boards, including schematics and layout guidelines.
  • Develop, simulate, and verify FPGA RTL in SystemVerilog, Verilog, or VHDL for control, data processing, and communications.
  • Integrate firmware onto FPGA and FPGA SoC platforms and perform hardware-firmware co-design.
  • Design DDR4, SERDES, UART, I2C, SPI, and LVDS interfaces and run signal and power integrity simulations with HyperLynx.
  • Lead laboratory board bring-up, integration, and debugging using logic analyzers, oscilloscopes, and spectrum analyzers.
  • Perform worst-case analysis, document designs, and support flight qualification in radiation-tolerant, high-reliability space environments.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
  • 4+ years of combined experience in high-speed digital board design and FPGA/RTL development.
  • Proficiency writing synthesizable RTL in SystemVerilog, Verilog, or VHDL.
  • Experience with FPGA design suites and EDA tools such as Vivado, Quartus, Synplify, Mentor Xpedition, Cadence, or Altium.
  • Strong laboratory debugging and physical board integration skills.
  • US citizenship required; must be able to obtain a United States Secret Clearance. Ability to travel up to 10%.

Nice to have

  • Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Experience with space-grade or radiation-tolerant FPGAs, including Xilinx Radiation-Tolerant devices or Microchip RTG4.
  • Experience with ModelSim, Questa, or similar FPGA simulation and testbench tools.
  • Python, TCL, or Perl scripting for automation.
  • Knowledge of NASA, ESA, or EEE-INST-002 parts selection, screening, derating, and radiation effects such as TID, SEE, and SEL.
  • Familiarity with Git, CI/CD practices, and AI development tools.

Culture & Benefits

  • Inclusive work environment focused on positive impact and global communications.
  • Medical, financial, and other benefits may be included depending on the position.
  • Additional cash or stock incentives may be available.
  • Compensation varies based on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and work location.
