TL;DR
FPGA Architect (Space Technology): Designing and governing FPGA architectures for spacecraft payload and platform systems with an accent on high-speed digital design, reliability, and hardware-software integration. Focus on verification, fault-tolerant architectures, complex data pipelines, and optimizing performance, power, and resilience across satellite missions.

Location: Hybrid, based in one of the available locations: Harwell, UK; Athens, Greece; Barcelona, Spain; Porto, Portugal; or Tenerife. Candidates must have the legal right to work in their chosen location.

What you will do

  • Define and own FPGA architectures across spacecraft platforms and missions.
  • Translate system and mission requirements into FPGA design strategies for high-speed, high-reliability digital systems.
  • Lead the FPGA lifecycle from concept and simulation through verification, hardware validation, and in-orbit optimization.
  • Establish reusable IP, design standards, scalable frameworks, and architectural documentation across programmes.
  • Shape verification using simulation, hardware-in-the-loop testing, timing analysis, and fault injection.
  • Act as the technical authority for FPGA design, collaborating with electronics, software, suppliers, and multidisciplinary engineering teams.

Requirements

  • Deep knowledge of FPGA architecture and digital design using VHDL, Verilog, or SystemVerilog.
  • Strong understanding of FPGA toolchains including Vivado, Quartus, Libero, or Lattice.
  • Experience with high-speed interfaces, data pipelines, real-time processing, and embedded systems integration.
  • Knowledge of verification, simulation, timing analysis, design optimization, and fault-tolerant design.
  • Ability to balance performance, power, and reliability while making and communicating technical decisions.
  • Legal right to work in the selected work location is required. Application materials must be submitted in English.
