TL;DR
Staff Site Reliability Engineer (AWS GovCloud): Building and operating highly available, secure infrastructure for Medallia’s US public-sector cloud platform with an accent on AWS GovCloud, Kubernetes, cloud networking, PostgreSQL, and Infrastructure-as-Code. Focus on designing regulated production environments, automating deployments and operations, improving observability, and leading incident response and reliability improvements.

Location: Hybrid near Tysons, Virginia, with 3 days per week onsite. Must reside in the U.S. and hold U.S. Citizenship or a Green Card.

Annual base salary: $158,500–$230,000.

What you will do

  • Design, build, and operate highly available and secure AWS GovCloud infrastructure, including Kubernetes, IAM, networking, DNS, certificates, and shared platform services.
  • Operate AWS networking end to end, including VPC architecture, routing, security groups, load balancing, PrivateLink, Transit Gateway, and segmented connectivity.
  • Operate production PostgreSQL with high availability, replication, backups, recovery, performance optimization, upgrades, and capacity planning.
  • Develop Terraform-based Infrastructure-as-Code and Kubernetes deployment workflows with Git, CI/CD, and GitOps practices.
  • Improve monitoring, logging, alerting, incident response, documentation, and recurring problem elimination.
  • Provide technical leadership, mentor engineers, and partner with engineering, security, release management, and customer-facing teams.

Requirements

  • U.S. residency and U.S. Citizenship or Green Card required for AWS GovCloud compliance.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 8+ years in Site Reliability Engineering, platform engineering, DevOps, or production infrastructure; alternatively, 5+ years with demonstrated Staff-level scope.
  • Production experience with Kubernetes, AWS core services and networking, Terraform, Git, CI/CD, Linux, DNS, TLS/certificates, and PostgreSQL.
  • Proficiency in Python and/or Go for automation scripts, operational tooling, and infrastructure services.
  • Experience with production incidents, root-cause analysis, change management, on-call rotations, technical troubleshooting, runbooks, and post-mortems.

Nice to have

  • Experience with FedRAMP, AWS GovCloud, FIPS, vulnerability management, or other regulated cloud environments.
  • Deep PostgreSQL operational expertise and familiarity with Redis or Kafka.
  • Experience supporting federal agencies, public-sector customers, or government networking and security requirements.
  • Experience with observability platforms, Jenkins, Argo CD, or GitHub Enterprise.
