TL;DR
Staff Engineer, Operational Safety Specialist (Aviation Safety): Strengthening proactive and reactive safety programs across aircraft flight operations and ground environments with an accent on audits, safety metrics, investigations, and operational risk management. Focus on managing CAPA workflows, analyzing mishaps and near-misses, maintaining the V-BAT operational risk registry, and coordinating corrective actions across flight safety, engineering, airworthiness, and operations teams.

Location: Dallas, Texas; on-site

What you will do

  • Conduct audits of ground procedures and operational practices, identify compliance gaps, and drive corrective actions.
  • Develop, maintain, and report leading and lagging safety metrics.
  • Own the Corrective and Preventive Action process from finding intake through analysis, assignment, and closure.
  • Lead safety promotion activities, including communications, awareness campaigns, and training touchpoints.
  • Lead medium- and lower-priority mishap and near-miss investigations, including root cause analysis and documentation.
  • Maintain the V-BAT operational risk registry and collaborate on safety reviews, readiness assessments, approvals, and customer reporting.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, safety, aviation, or a related discipline, or equivalent operational experience.
  • 3–5+ years of experience in aviation safety, flight or ground operations, UAS operations, or safety management systems.
  • Familiarity with SMS principles, operational audits, and mishap investigation processes.
  • Strong analytical skills and proficiency with safety or quality tracking systems.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, especially for investigation reports and safety summaries.
  • Ability to work across diverse operational environments and coordinate with multiple stakeholders.

Nice to have

  • Experience supporting UAS flight operations or military and rapid-deployment aviation environments.
  • Experience developing safety promotion or training materials.
  • Familiarity with risk management frameworks and operational assurance tools.
  • Formal training in HFACS, TapRooT, RCA, or other mishap investigation methodologies.
  • Field experience supporting flightline or mission operations.
