Heating System Design Engineer (Field)

Location: Hybrid role covering Portsmouth and Southampton, with attendance at customer properties in the designated area

Salary: £42,000 per year

What you will do

• Attend domestic customer properties and conduct installation surveys.
• Collect property and survey data to complete room-by-room heat loss calculations and determine emitter output requirements.
• Design high-quality air source heat pump installations and identify required radiator replacements.
• Resolve technical issues where possible and report installation risks to the line manager.
• Explain technical queries, price changes, and proposed solutions to customers, obtaining approval to proceed.
• Prepare material lists and ensure designs follow manufacturer guidance, building regulations, MCS requirements, and hirify.global efficiency guidelines.

Requirements

• Qualifications, training, and experience designing air source heat pump installations for domestic properties.
• Ability to perform heat loss assessments and calculate emitter output requirements.
• Knowledge of manufacturer guidance and relevant legislative requirements for heat pumps, low-carbon heating, clean energy, and building regulations.
• Ability to conduct customer-facing site surveys and explain technical and pricing decisions.

Nice to have

• System design qualifications such as Heat Geek Heating Mastery.
• Level 3 Award in installation and maintenance of air source heat pump systems.
• Water regulations certification, such as a WRAS course.
• Level 2 or 3 Award in plumbing.
• Level 3 Award in low-temperature heating and hot water systems in dwellings.
