Robotics System Test Engineer

Location: On-site in South San Francisco / SF Bay Area. Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.

What you will do

• Own the test strategy for the autonomy stack across perception, planning, manipulation, controls, hardware, and locally deployed models.
• Define quantitative acceptance criteria for accuracy, cycle time, model performance, safety behavior, and release decisions.
• Build test automation, mechanical and electrical fixtures, hardware-in-the-loop rigs, and instrumentation.
• Plan and run exploratory, characterization, performance, reliability, and end-to-end verification campaigns on heavy robots in outdoor conditions.
• Lead root-cause analysis of failures across perception, software, controls, and hardware, and investigate field incidents.
• Develop safety procedures, maintain requirements traceability, and produce data-driven test reports.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in robotics, computer science, engineering, or equivalent experience.
• 3+ years of experience in test, QA, or validation engineering, including robotics, autonomous systems, or complex physical and embedded products.
• Strong Python and C++ skills with experience building test automation, tooling, and analysis pipelines.
• Hands-on hardware testing experience with fixtures, hardware-in-the-loop rigs, instrumentation, CI, regression testing, and simulation.
• Experience defining test plans, quantitative acceptance criteria, and evidence-based ship/no-ship decisions.
• Familiarity with ROS2, strong problem-solving skills, ownership, and willingness to work outdoors with heavy autonomous machinery.
